Reefton Lookout: Zig-Zag Track

Regional Ride

West Coast, South Island

Head up the gradually climbing forestry road being sure to not turn off from the main road you are on.

You will climb over mostly even surfaced and sometimes steep terrain till you reach the lookout and humming cell phone tower. Enjoy a break with stunning views of Reefton and the surrounding ranges, before heading off along the top of the range following the forestry road.

Avoid deviating off the main path when the opportunity arises about 1km along. You know you are on the right track when you arrive at a junction and see the yellow Zig Zag sign directing you towards a sweet flowing downhill to Rosstown Road. Options from here are to link up with the Powerhouse Track and follow the road out onto State Highway 7, turning right to cross the Inangahua River road bridge and the next right into town, taking a right onto Powerhouse Track and ride that back to Reefton, or return the way you came.

Allow enough time to get side-tracked and enjoy the route-finding should you become disorientated. This track is undulating forestry road with steep easy flowing sections. It can be ridden in either direction.
