Golf Club Coffee Ride

Regional Ride

Queenstown, South Island

Coffee. Cycling. Two of the best things in life can be combined on this leisurely ride leaving from Queenstown.

This lovely ride starts in downtown Queenstown. You'll follow the hard packed Frankton Track out of town and along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. This well maintained trail is ideal for beginners and families as there are no climbs other than a few small rolling hills. Along the way you'll enjoy exceptional views of the Remarkables and neighboring Kelvin Heights. As you near Frankton, the trail continues along the lake and past Frankton Beach.

The trail curves back and a single lane bridge crosses the Kawarau River as it's draining from Lake Wakatipu. At this point you'll pass the Kawarau Village and join the Kelvin Heights Track. This continues to follow the lake with more rolling hills (slightly larger, but still suitable for beginners and families) and views looking back towards Queenstown and towering Ben Lomond.

Shortly after passing Kelvin Grove and Beach you'll come to the Wakatipu Yacht Club where you'll find a road which goes up a short hill and connects with the drive of the Queenstown Golf Club. You'll then be minutes away from a beautiful coffee and cake at the Peninsula Bar and Restaurant. Stay the afternoon in the fabulous clubhouse or soak up the sun on the balcony which affords one of the best views of Queenstown imaginable. Cyclists and walkers will be made more than welcome.

The ride from Queenstown to the Queenstown Golf Club is 15 kms and will take approximately one hour. If you would prefer to not cycle home, the staff at the golf club can arrange for a Queenstown Water Taxi to bring you back to town - a five minute trip across the lake which will be a memorable experience in itself.
