12 Mile Delta

Regional Ride

Queenstown, South Island

The 12 Mile Delta is an easy to intermediate ride from the 12 Mile Delta camping ground to Bob's Cove and back.

The trail is flat for most of the ride although two sections may have beginner riders pushing their bike.  They are very short however.  The track weaves it's way in and out of native bush following all the way round the shores of Lake Wakitipu.

A the Bob's Cove end of the ride you will find some historic lime kilns and hut ruins to explore.  In Bob's Cove there is a small rock hill on the peninsula.  When you reach a junction take the track heading right and away from the spur - it is not possible to ride up.  Alternatively, park your bike and walk up the track to the top of the hill for wonderful views over the lake and back to Queenstown.

The 12 Mile Delta trail starts at the far end of the DOC camping ground riding away from Queenstown.  A small entrance to the trail drops down through some trees and fords a couple of very small streams.  Cross the wooden bridge and make you way downstream on the other side of the creek.  The trail becomes obvious as you get closer to the lake.  At the other end the 12 Mile Delta Track emerges at Bob's Cove where there is a couple of houses.  Ride back the same way or along the main Glenorchy road.
