Apiti Loop Ride

Classic Road Ride

Manawatu, North Island

This is a stunning ride through some of the Manawatu Region's most stunning countryside. A great way to do this ride is as a multi-day ride. Plan ahead, book into some accommodation and check out some of the hidden treasures of the Region. A great way to experience the local hospitality, this ride won't disappoint. There are a few hilly sections in this ride, so it's recommended for moderate fitness levels.

Starting at The Square, head down Fitzherbert Avenue, over the bridge and up the hill onto Summerhill Drive. Follow this around to the left and it will become Fitzherbert East Road. You will follow this for approximately 11km, before coming to Napier Road where you need to turn left. Turn right onto Cambridge Avenue, and then turn left into Oxford Street, which becomes Colyton Road. Next, turn right onto Kimbolton Road (State highway 54.) Continue along Kimbolton Road. You will pass through Cheltenham. Keep following Kimbolton Road through Kimbolton, (this becomes Rangiwahia Road, it is still State Highway 54.) Turn right onto Apiti Road. Stay on Apiti Road. Apiti Road will become Oroua Valley Road. This road takes you through to the rural township of Apiti. Through Apiti, continue on Oroua Valley Road until you come to the Pohangina Valley East Road turn off on your right. Turn right into Pohangina Valley East Road and follow it right down for approximately 46km. You will come out at Pohangina Road, where you need to turn left. This road becomes Cambridge Avenue, which puts you back in Ashhurst. From here you can choose to head back through Aokautere or take the shorter route down Napier Road which leads directly to The Square in Palmerston North City.
