The Great Rides and Cycle Trails of New Zealand

Kaikoura is a picture perfect town tucked between the Pacific Ocean and the snow capped Seaward Kaikoura Range. Kaikoura is known for the huge numbers of marine wildlife which frequent the waters just off the coast. Thanks to a unique continental shelf, you can see many different species of whales within a couple miles of Kaikoura town. Kaikoura was once only known as a crayfish (lobster) fishing village - in fact, kai translates to food and koura to crayfish.

Kaikoura is a beautiful 2.5 hour drive away from Christchurch and two hours away from Hanmer Springs and the St. James Great Trail.
