The Great Rides and Cycle Trails of New Zealand

Woodhill Forest

Regional Ride

Auckland, North Island

Being so easily accessible Woodhill is arguably the most popular riding area near Auckland. With more tracks than you could possibly ride in one day (67 to be exact), there is a little something for everyone from beginners to experts and stunt junkies.

Woodhill is a lot different in set up to most riding around New Zealand and along with Rotorua once of the easiest areas for visitors to New Zealand or just non-Aucklanders. Right from the car park you will find an information center, toilets, a cafe, wash stands, and a bike shop with bikes for hire if you do not have or forgot yours on the way there.

Woodhill consists of 6 main signposted tracks ranging from 6km to 25km. At the carpark you can register and pickup a map.

Here's a hint from the locals - Nearly all the riders stick to the main tracks, so make sure you get off the beaten track and explore the trails at the back of the forest. Even on a day when the car park is nearly full you can find great riding away from the madding crowd.  And for those really advanced riders Woodhill is unique in the amount of woodens ramps, jumps and other structures to test your skills and balance.

Woodhill riding is on mostly sand so in the summer some trails can be tough going, but it means that you can also nearly always get great riding even if there has been some rain (not of course being the one to say that it rains a lot in Auckland).
