Pukerua Bay

from

Continuing the Ara Harakeke from the footbridge over SH1 to the railway station in Pukerua Bay, the walking/cycleway proceeds along a scenic rocky coastline. The footpath on the seaward side of SH1 is a walkway and cycleway for walkers and cyclists travelling in both directions (so take care passing). The area is quite exposed, and there are several rest areas on the left in you need to pull in for a rest or to admire the view.

At the Fisherman's Table carpark the track meets the Kapiti Coast walkway which will take you to Queen Elizabeth Park. If you are riding you need to go a short way along SH1 and then in to Ames Street to join Kapiti Coast Cycleway.
Allow 30 minutes to ride between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki. If proceeding south the Pukerua Bay hill is a steady incline but shouldn't be too much trouble for cyclists. The route is sealed the entire length and you do not need ride along the road.
