Blenheim

Blenheim (pronounced ‘Blenum’) is a quick 30 minutes drive away from neighboring Picton. Situated in the heart of the world-renowned Marlborough wine region, it's a fantastic place to base yourself for a couple days.

Blenheim is famous for its dry, hot and sunny climate. In fact, Blenheim is one of the sunniest towns in New Zealand. This South Island town claims an estimated average of 2,438 hours of sunshine each year. The summer heat can at times be stifling - mountains trap the summer sun and temperatures over 30°C are common. Around Blenheim you’ll find an excellent selection of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops.

There are more than 20 wineries within striking distance of Blenheim, and most of them welcome visitors for sampling sessions and cellar door sales. Blenheim is an excellent place to hire a bike and explore the vineyards - especially as the town sits on the flat Wairau Plain.

There are a number of great rides in the Blenheim area and it's the logical place to stop before either heading south towards Kaikoura or north towards Nelson or Picton.
