Rides in NZ
Your cycling adventure to New Zealand can include one of many different rides - from short day trips on well maintained trails, to challenging single-track mountain bike rides, to multi-day adventures on one of our cross-country cycleways. Any one of these rides will take in some truly fascinating scenery - towering mountains, volcanic plateaus, rugged beaches, lush rain forests, or crystal-clear lakes.
New Zealand has always been an excellent place to cycle. And with the recent approval of the government sponsored series of Great Rides, New Zealand will become one of the world's best cycling destinations.
The rides on NZbyBike are categorised in three different ways:
- Great Rides: These multi-day rides will take in much of New Zealand's iconic scenery on trails already in place and trails which are under construction now. Along the cycleways you'll find towns with places to eat and drink as well as a range of accommodation options to suit every budget.
- Classic Rides: These rides like The 42nd Traverse on the North Island are classics that make New Zealand biking what it is: phenomenal.
- Regional Rides: These rides are the backbone of New Zealand biking. They're often rides the locals love, like the Lake Hayes Track just outside of Arrowtown. Do you have a favorite ride in your backyard you think should be listed on NZbyBike? Contact us and we'll work with you to get it listed.
On the ride pages, you'll find detailed ride notes, maps, information on how to get there and information you'll need to plan your cycling trip to that area. Then check out the popular towns of the region and find places to eat and sleep after a long day on the trail, things to do, and if you're like us the best place to enjoy a New Zealand beer.
