Region
Ruapehu
The Ruapehu regions in the central of the North Island is a cycling mecca with places such as Ohakune, the Waikato region, and the Tongariro National Park.
The Central North Island is home to some of New Zealand's best MTB trails including the multi-day Ruapehu Whanganui Trails the stretches from Ohakune all the way to Whanganui, and more. Combined with the classic mountain bike regions or Taupo and Rotorua and the iconic 42 Traverse many would argue that this large region is perhaps New Zealand's premier biking area.
On the other side of the mountains of the Tongariro National Park Ohakune, Raetihi and National Park Village are the perfect place to base yourself for skiing, the world-famous Tongariro Crossing Walk, and of course brilliant biking.
From bustling towns like Ohakune to remote alpine villages like Whakapapa Village, there is something for everyone in Ruapehu.
