The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

Nelson Tasman

Region

The Nelson Tasman region offers some of the absolute best biking in all of New Zealand. The stunning bays and inlets of Abel Tasman National Park, combined with a fantastic cafe scene in Nelson and wineries and craft breweries all over the region create the ideal cycling destination.

Nelson is a top destination for travellers to New Zealand, it boasts more sunny days than anywhere else in the country, some excellent national parks and brilliant white sand beaches complimented by lovely green countryside.

There are plenty of rides in this region to keep you coming back year after year. The developing Tasman Great Taste Trail takes in the best of the region over 175 kms. The Dun Mountain Trail is already open and provides some of the best MTB riding on the South Island.

While it's easy to get caught up in the buzz of Nelson, don't forget about nearby Golden Bay. Be sure to 'head over the hill' to Takaka, Collingwood and cycle trails that easily compare with Nelson's. The Heaphy Track is open on a seasonal basis and we think it's a 'must ride' in 2012.
