Wanaka

Destination

While many people come to Wanaka to escape the crowds of Queenstown, it still manages to retain a laid-back, small town feel. Wanaka sits on the the southern end of Lake Wanaka and has excellent views of the Crown Range. As Wanaka continues to grow, more and more restaurants and bars open giving the visitor many options to choose from during their stay in this alpine town.

Wanaka serves as a ski town in the winter months for the Treble Cone and Cardrona ski fields. In the summer, there are plenty of hiking options in the Mt Aspiring National Park. Wanaka also has some excellent mountain biking - from family-friendly off-road tracks to more challenging single track trails.

Driving via Cromwell, Wanaka is 100 kms away from Queenstown. A more scenic route takes you over the Cardrona Pass via the small village of Cardrona.
