The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

Turangi

Destination

Turangi is found four kilometers away from the southern end of Lake Taupo and is a good spot to base yourself for cycling trips in the Tongariro National Park.

This town of 4,000 people sits on the banks of the Tongariro River. Turangi was once mainly a service town for a nearby hydroelectric power station. Today, Turangi claims to be the, "Trout Fishing Capital of the World." In addition to some of New Zealand's best trout fishing, there are options for hunting, hiking, kayaking and many other ways to take in Tongariro River and the untouched wilderness of the Central North Island.

Turangi is a short hours drive away from both Taupo and National Park.
