Horse Riding and Mountain Biking
During the changing seasons the Maori people would move across the land on foot. Travel on foot meant that Maori could maintain a connection to the land and the environment they moved through.
At the arrival of the horse the Maori people were able to move around and maintain this important connection. The sounds, the fragrance, the sights were all enjoyed.
All rides with Kai Waho ensure that these same important connections are maintained.
Most of our rides take place during the warmer seasons. Morning and evening rides coincide with the activity of the local wildlife. Rides after sunset or at night highlight those natural senses that are often taken for granted. Like all of our activities at the Pa the size of our teams of riders are limited and are available to teams of up to four confident riders.
For New Zealanders that take their horse/bike on holiday, the Tamau Pa is an ideal location.
All rides are Guided. Unless by prior arrangement.
Due to our remote location all rides are either on a full day basis or inclusive of overnight accommodation. Our ride into the Tamau Pa overnighter is very popular.
Rides are restricted to small personally Guided Groups of up to 4. -
Trout Fishing
The picturesque Ripia river runs through the block and offers the keen fly fishermen the chance to catch a beautiful Brown Trout. We have a catch and release policy, fishing is available to licensed anglers and is seasonal. We also have strict policies to control the invasive alge 'Didymo'

Free Range Sika Hunting.
When Maori went hunting natural events would indicate a season is here. Sacred events would ensure the season was plentiful. Our wild free ranging Sika herd is no exception. We hunt seasonally, we are very selective and thankful of what we take from the forest, we, also enjoy what we leave for the future. Most important of all is our immense respect and care for the natural world/environment
Our hunting season starts late March and goes through to mid May. During the season all hunts are co-ordinated to manage the hunting pressure across the land.
During our hunts we share an experience that encompasses the hunt as a whole. By this we mean that our guests enjoy the wilderness they move through, they are just as happy to pass up a shot on a young Sika, they enjoy reading the tell tale signs left by a rutting Sika stag and the company they are in when enjoying the hunt as a whole or full experience.
Trophy hunters, meat hunters, junior hunters, overseas travellers, first time hunters, everyone who hunts Sika with Kai Waho will enjoy their hunt with a Maori guide, who in turn is also guided by his ancestors.
