The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

Napier

Destination

The Art Deco city of Napier is a great place place to appreciate 1930s architecture, wonderful wine a great cafe culture and year-round mild temperatures for cycling.

In 1931, Napier was almost levelled by a devastating earthquake. Following this, it was rebuild in completely in the art deco style popular at the time. Today Napier has one of the most outstanding collections of 1930s architecture in the world. Walking or cycling around the city, you’ll come across examples of Art Deco, Spanish Mission and Stripped Classical design.

Be sure not to miss Napier’s other special attractions including the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers and the many vineyards. There is great cycling in and around Napier including the developing Hawke's Bay Trails.
