Graveyard Gully to Roxburgh Gorge Riverside Track
Regional Ride
Central Otago, South Island
From Alexandra head up Tarbert Street SH85 to the historic Shaky Bridge (Fox then Kerrystreet) cross the Manuherikia river turn right along the road to Graveyard Gully. The trackstarts with a Department of conservation sign.
This is a narrow track that goes all the way to Doctors point popular with walkers in summer and probably only really ridable for the first 4 to 5 Kms. This first section of the ride will take you far enough into the Gorge to see the remains of Gold miners dwellings. If youleave your bikes at the end of the bikeable track and take a short walk over a rocky head-land will bring you to Mary Anns Cottage reputed to be the last chinese miner working inthe Gorge. Further on is the remains of Leaky Lodge which was a drinking house.Remember to bring your bike lock if you want to leave your bike and plenty of water as it can be very hot in summer with little shade
