Jacks and Jollies Passes
Regional Ride
Canterbury , South Island
This is an awesome 25km ride right out of Hanmer Township that is achievable by most levels of mountain bikers. The hardest part of the ride being the sustained hill climb up Jacks Pass. The ride circumnavigates Mt Isobel and is best probably in a clockwise direction heading out of town on Jacks Pass Road.
It is very easy route find on this route just remember to keep turning right. Firstly, after about 1km on Jacks Pass Road turn right at the sign for Mt Lyford ski field which will take you on a climb for your first crossing of the ridge over Jacks Pass at 800m elevation (total vertical rise of 620 meters).
Once over the pass turn right at Clarence River riding along the back of Mt Isobel through spectacular high country and tussocklands for about 11 kilometers, before right again at Jollies Pass Road and back over the ridge on the other side of Mt Isobel.
Follow Jollies Pass Road thorough the forest and back to town.
