The Waikato River Trails, the second full “Great Ride” to be completed under Nga Haerenga, The New Zealand Cycle Trail will be opened via a public cycling and walking event this Saturday 5 November. The Waikato River Trails stretch 100km along New Zealand’s longest river - the “Mighty" Waikato River.

The new 6.8km section of Tasman’s Great Taste Trail that runs through Rabbit Island will officially be opened on this coming Sunday, October 2nd. New Zealand's Cycle Trail Ambassador Sarah Ulmer will be joined by Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne to officially open this scenic portion of the Great Taste Trail.

Earlier this year in July, a slip half a km away from the Bridge to Nowhere swept away a section of of Mangaparua Track. DOC had closed the track to inspect the damage and clear the slip. Thanks to their work this epic track is again open for riding.

One of the 18 multi-day, government-sponsored Great Rides will receive some much needed funding today at a formal event in Taupo. The Lake Track Taupo is a joint initiative of Bike Taupo, the Department of Conservation, Taupo District Council, local community supporters and the New Zealand Cycle Trail Project.

On Wednesday, The New Zealand Cycle Trail project signed its contract for the new Hawke's Bay Trail - the Water Ride. This $712,000 in approved funding from the Cycle Trail Project will allow the 78 km Water Ride to become a reality.
