The Helibike team have lived, worked and biked in the Mt Cook/Mackenzie area for years and used this knowledge and love of the region to create an amazing backcountry mountain biking adventure suitable for all abilities… Imagine flying high into the mountains behind Twizel and seeing stunning views of the first 4 days of the Alps 2 Ocean Trail, from Lake Pukaki, Twizel, Lake Ohau and down towards Omarama. Then, mountain biking down constantly changing scenery, from rocky farm track through a mountain gorge, a remnant beech forest, down grassy banks and, finally, to the shores of the beautiful Lake Ohau. Cycle along the gravel lakeside road to the river where you can either cycle on or be picked up and driven to Ohau Village or back to Twizel. We ride on a mix of surfaces, with some short uphills and there may be a few stream crossings. You’ll see some of the most varied scenery and terrain on any single Helibike experience in New Zealand. This is a spectacular alternative to the third section of the A2O Trail, a real backcountry adventure, with plenty of stops to admire the amazing views. You don’t have to be experienced but you must be adventurous! We have had all ability levels on this trip and everyone gets to enjoy it...
