Day 2 of the in laws and I am again excused to go for a ride. This time the leave pass extends to the whole day so the Wharfdale Track is de rigor. After all, if I am going to have time to ride this years Kiwi Brevet it would be nice...

A weekend supposedly with the in-laws near Christchurch provided a great opportunity to steal away for a bit of riding. Don't get me wrong the in laws are fabulous but being with them let me off the hook of parenting.

Just over one year ago I was not only new to Team NZByBike, but I was new to mountain biking in general. In the previous six months, I had been on the saddle once for a leisurely wine by bike tour in Marlborough.

Earlier this year NZbyBike was asked to review some electric bikes that had recently been imported into New Zealand. Now, as much as we love the pain that comes from a killer granny gear workout up a seemingly never-ending hill, we were quite intrigued by the possibility of checking out some electric bikes.

We heard from Dan mid-day today. He was faced with yet another day of rain, shattered muscles, and a 'raw' bum. He didn't let that hold him back. He finished. Dan completed 80 kms on his final day and when I spoke with him he didn't seem to know what to do...

Dan phoned in midway through Day 3 of the Te Tawhio O Whanganui - he sounded wrecked. I'm sitting down now to another lunch - trying to get some energy back. The start of my 140 km day started off promising - until I realized I missed a turn.

Dan phoned in with another update yesterday evening after finishing Day 2 of the Te Tāwhio O Whanganui. Today was significantly more challenging than yesterday. It wasn't necessarily the heat or the rain, it was the 11 hour day, the five massive hills - one at 15% incline, and the huge distance...

This update comes from Dan via a phone call mid-morning on Day 2 of the Te Tāwhio O Whanganui. Looking back on yesterday, I've decided the biggest challenge was dealing with the heat and humidity, the distance and of course the elevation gain.
