The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

September Pedaling Update

Hi All,

Wow. It's been a month since our first Pedaling Update. Only a week ago we were yahooing that Spring was here and the Innovation Centre was full of bikes as everyone was riding before and after work. Now it's well and truly back to winter with snow on the ground and no bikes to be seen.

The website is going great, and we have another 19 businesses listed as either Standard or Premium listings this month. If your business is not listed yet, get on board - we will have only a handful of each business types in each town as Premium listings. A Premium listing ensures your business is always at the top of the business directory and Premium listings will also be included in all printed ride guides coming out this summer.

Creating Content

The biggest challenge we have at the moment with NZbyBike.com is creating content fast enough. A big thank-you to Warren at the Station Lodge in Ohakune for his content on the Old Coach Road Ride, and we are looking forward to receiving much more for the Central North Island from Warren.

If you are able to help us with writing up content, providing GPS data or taking photos we would welcome absolutely any help we can get!

Events

  • Dan was up in Rotorua for the Backpackers Conference where NZbyBike was a sponsor at the beginning of the month. We got a great write-up on Thumbrella following the launch.
  • This weekend sees Dan and Scott enter their first race of the summer - the Otago Rail Trail 100 Miler. It's nuts riding the Rail Trail in a day but both reckon this is to kick-start their exercise programmes - any bets on them not finishing? Matt is going to accompany the boys in the NZbyBike Spaceship - so if you're riding and want a hot cup of tea or coffee, drop by.
  • Great Lakes Tour - Even though we announced the dates late, it looks like we will have at least a dozen of us riding the inaugural Great Lakes Tour. If you can make the 1st - 3rd of October to ride an amazing ride from Tekapo to Ohau via Mount Cook on flat, gravel, canal roads, then there are still some spaces available.

Great Ride Latest News

So, thanks to you all for the support - visitor numbers to the website have exceeded expectations and average page views are up to 5 per visit. In October we are looking forward to some team riding kit arriving, reporting back on the first Great Lakes Tour, Dan is flying to Bejing to talk at the World Student Youth Tourism Conference and Scott is up in Rotorua racing in the World Single Speed Championships.

Happy Pedaling,

Dan, Mat, Matt. Matze, Ingo, Toby, Nicole and Scott
