The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

NZbyBike Pedaling Update - On the Road Again

Hi All -

While it's beginning to feel like winter here in Queenstown, the biking is still in full swing. Team NZbyBike rode in the 125 km Contact Epic this past Saturday and we're now well into the NZbyBike co-sponsored Queenstown Bike Festival. It's 10 days of activities focusing on the best of cycling in the beautiful Southern Lakes region.

It's a bloody exciting time not only in Queenstown Cycle Tourism, but in Cycle Tourism New Zealand wide. Whether it's Hanmer Springs' first-to-be-open Great Ride the St James Cycle Trail, or Golden Bay's now open to mountain bikers Heaphy Track, or Rotorua being named the "official home of Mountain Biking," it seems everywhere you look Cycle Tourism is blowing up.

Biking in the Lindis Conservation Area

We're talking about the 250,000+ Kiwis alone that travel for the sole purpose of a holiday based around cycling. They stay 3.6 nights on average in your town and spend over $100 million each year. This isn't even factoring in the 51,000+ international cycle tourists that visit New Zealand each year.

We're seeing it in visitors to NZbyBike, enquiries to the businesses who have listed with us and general support from all of you as we work to aggregate this developing and profitable industry.

We May Be Web Geeks, But...

Prior to our launch one year ago, we spent well over 12 months developing the website which is now seeing 6,000+ visitors each month. The vast majority of our traffic (over 60%) comes as a result of cycle tourists plugging New Zealand specific cycle phrases into Google. Much of this traffic is gained as we have heaps of inbound links pointing to NZbyBike.com.

Increase Traffic with a Premium Listing

If you are seeking ways for your own business to do better in Google searches, aim to get inbound links pointing to your website.

We all know traffic ultimately leads to bookings, so the more traffic you're getting the better. A Premium Listing on NZbyBike gets your business a valuable SEO (Search Engine Optimized) link pointing to your own website.

NZbyBike Road Trip: Take Two

Early next month, Matt is heading up to the greater Nelson Region (we're talking to you Golden Bay, Nelson, Picton & Marlborough) to meet with businesses to chat about NZbyBike. We know you enjoyed putting a face on NZbyBike as much as we enjoyed putting a face on all of you, so please drop Matt a line if you'd like him to call in and say hello. He'll be bringing our first to be finalised Southern Lakes Ride Guide and is eager to meet with local cycle-friendly businesses. Drop him a line at 022 679 9259.

Heaphy Track Guided Tours

Heaphy Track

If you're keen to ride the soon to be opened Heaphy Track and don't want to worry about the logistics of a transfer, carrying your gear or cooking your food at night, why not check out the team at Escape Adventures? They're offering guided trips on the Heaphy Track this winter. Check them out, and maybe you'll run into Team NZbyBike when we tackle the ride later next month.

Back to the North Island

After Matt is finished in the Nelson region, he'll be taking the NZbyBike Spaceship to the North Island to rendezvous with Dan in the Central North Island. They'll be racing in the T42 on the 42nd Traverse before meeting with more cycle-friendly businesses.
