The definitive where-to-ride guide for cycling in New Zealand

On Your Bike Expo

NZByBike is proud to be co-sponsoring New Zealand's inaugural cycling and multisport expo - the On Your Bike Expo. On November 12th & 13th, thousands of keen cyclists, mountain bikers and multisporters will convene in Hamilton for two days focused on biking in New Zealand.

Cycling is Hot

We know cycling is big throughout New Zealand. In addition to the 1.2 million New Zealanders that ride a bike, you have 350,000 Kiwis taking cycling holidays each year. Add to this 75,000 international visitors that come to New Zealand to experience our epic bike trails and the series of multiday cycle trails in development around the country, and there is no question that cycling and cycle tourism in New Zealand is hot.

It's unsurprising then that there are more than 8,000 visitors expected for the inaugural On Your Bike Expo. The team organizing this epic event has a massive media push planned that will target radio, print and televised media.

Along with the NZByBike Epic Destinations area, you can expect a 30km or 100km road race, loads of bikes on display, RTOs from around New Zealand, New Zealand's top athletes including nine times Coast to Coast winner Steve Gurney and most importantly - thousands of visitors excited about cycling in New Zealand. Look forward to...

Seminars: Learn from the pro's on topics ranging from tech and setup issures to training and nutrition tactics

Demonstrations: Watch New Zealand's top riders show off their skills

2012 Range: Try the new range of bikes from top suppliers and retailers

Skills Sessions: Hosted by experts in the industry

New Fasion: Look at the new cycling fashion trends

The Indoor Pump Track: This exciting feature has been taken over by the great minds at SPOKE magazine and ABD with help from some top pros such as Kelly McGarry. We’re not entirely sure what they’re cooking up yet but I’m promised it will involve the following and should be unveiled this week! 26” and 20” capable, fast enough for experienced riders to shred some turns and hit some gaps but still fun and safe for beginners to roll through and hone their skills. Prizes and giveaways, demo bikes and heaps more.

The Airbag: A colossal air-filled cushion, that anyone and everyone (over 10 years old) can attempt tricks and jumps with close to zero risk of injury. Also see the pro’s throw down some stuff you didn’t even think was possible. If you aren’t very bike savvy, don’t worry. There will be a scissor lift to offer you the same buzz with some freefalls

Scooter Demos: A whole area with ramps dedicated to test-riding scooters courtesy of the Dept. Of Adventure.

Bike NZ’s Learn to ride programme:  An area and programme set up to help kids ages 10 to 13 increase their bike handling skills and safety knowledge on bikes.

Hamilton MTB Club’s Skills Course:  Just one more reason to bring your bike! Plenty of obstacles and skill testing features with good, sound riding advice at your disposal to help you increase your bike handling skills and confidence on two wheels.

Waikato Times Hundy K (Road ride): Two distances (100km & 30km). Both beginning and ending at the expo with the 100km meandering through the lush Waikato hills out through Ngaruawahia, Raglan Whatawhata and back in to Hamilton. The 30km is a nice little ride that heads out from the expo in Claudelands to Horsham downs and then back to the expo. All race entry fees include your free entry to the expo and are a great warm up ride for Taupo.

Waikato Times Bike Park: Ride to the event and get in at a discounted rate... if you’re an adult it’s $10 rather than $15. Just in case you’d rather not wheel your bike around the expo the fine folks at the Waikato Times are offering this service. Leave your bike with them in a safe and secure facility... get given a number that corresponds with your bike... pick it up when you’re done. The best part is, it’s all free of charge!

The Speaker Series: Sit in and listen or put those burning questions to some of the top pro’s and experts in the industry. Anything from training, racing, technology and product selection.

NZByBike Epic Destinations

As part of NZByBike's co-sponsorship of the expo, we have naming rights for the Epic Destinations area and will have a large stand featuring the best places to ride in New Zealand and most importantly our cycle-friendly business directory partners. Whether you are going to the expo yourselves or not this is a great opportunity for you to get your business in front of loads of potential cyclists and other cycle friendly businesses.

As we get closer to the date of the On Your Bike Expo we will be updating this page with more of our plans for featuring New Zealand's bloody great cycle trails and our NZbyBike partners. Watch this space.
